Upon graduating from college, my father told me I needed to “always have a second source of income.” Entering the professional workforce in 2008, I was lucky to have job, health benefits, a great boss. Taking heed of his advice, I started my company on May 10, 2008 (Comma Girl), and ran my side hustles through it. ⚽️Soccer camps. 📝Editing friends’ resumes. 📖Small writing projects. 🏡House sitting.
Fast forward to 2017, I had an incredible industry experience, an MBA, a full-time corporate job, one child, and a small business that was generating about 40% of my total income. On nights and weekends, I would work to support small clients, and realized I could take this small idea and turn it into a new reality: running a small business full time.
Since then, we’ve grown our revenues and staff, and re-branded to Kirkpatrick Group to align with our expanded services and capabilities.
I’ve learned plenty, but the key takeaway is….It’s not about salary. It’s about freedom. Freedom to choose how you spend your time and who you spend it with.
Thanks to everyone who has supported my professional journey. I appreciate you more than you know.
Monologue concluded.
